Where In Verona Contest: Week 4 Winner

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool Ben Blinder when it comes to pizzerias in Verona.

We seriously cropped Fred Goode‘s photos for this week’s Where In Verona contest, thinking no one would be able to turn that little bit of lettering at the bottom of a big field of red into an answer.

But we forgot that Blinder, a Verona resident since 1986, once lived on Claremont Avenue around the corner from Famous Ray’s Pizza, and that he has a healthy appetite. And so it was that he immediately guessed that this week’s photo was a close-up of the awning at Famous Ray’s, located at the corner of Bloomfield and Pompton Avenues. Blinder’s favorite slice at Ray’s? “Anchovy all the way, baby!”, he wrote us.

So now he has a stylish MyVeronaNJ baseball hat to wear on his next pizza outing. Check back next Monday for a new Where In Verona contest to win yours.

  1. In the interest of fair disclosure, I must point out that my favorite pizza of all time IS anchovy, but on my many frequent trips to Ray’s over the 14 years that I lived on Claremont Avenue, my pizza of choice was pepperoni. Try it, you’ll like it!
