Essex County Clerk Christopher J. Durkin has sent out a news alert about passport fees. The U.S. government has just approved a substantial hike in rates for both adult and juvenile passports and, if you need one, you’ve got only a few days to get one at the old rate.

As of July 13, the fee for adult passports will jump 47% to $110 from $75, and the fee for kids’ passports will rise to $80 from $60.

Because of the extended July 4 holiday weekend, County Clerk’s office staffers will not be at Verona on Monday for their usual first Monday of the month outreach office. But you can get your passport and photos taken care of on outreach days in several nearby towns. For the full schedule, click here. This is the page with the rules on new passport applications; these are the rules on renewals.
