There’s been more national sports recognition for Julia Ashley. The 2015 graduate of Verona High School, who was recruited to play soccer for University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has just been called up to the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team. The team will be in Portland Oregon from March 8 to March 17 and will participate in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) tournament against the Houston Dash, Portland Thorns and Chicago Red Storm.
Ashley, who was the captain of the 2017 UNC women’s soccer team, was also named first team to the NCAA Division I Women’s All-East Region Team. The Tar Heels earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament last season by defeating top-seeded Duke University to win the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, their first ACC championship since 2009 and Ashley was name to the All-Tournament Team. Ashley is also believed to be a top prospect for the 2019 NWSL professional soccer draft.
