Frank Gabriele will be the top seed at 138 pounds and his brother John will be the No. 2 seed at 152 pounds when the Verona High School wrestling competes in the District 10 championship at Belleville High School on Saturday.
They will be joined by Dean Palmer, a freshman who amassed a 24-10 record and who is the No. 3 seed at 120, while fellow freshman Frank Riggio, who is 25-9, is the No. 3 seed at 132. Frank’s older brother, Nick Riggio is the No. 3 seed at 170, having garnered 26 wins and just eight losses. Another No. 3 seed: Bill Fauerbach (25-10) at 182.
Sam Zamloot who has 18 wins and 10 losses this season, will be the No. 4 seed at 114 and Michael Garcia, who compiled an 18-14 record, is the No. 4 seed at 106.
Cade Byrne is the No. 5 seed at 220, Ryan Huze is the No. 6 seed at 145, John Pavia is the No. 7 seed at 160 and Tyler DaCosta is the No. 9 seed at 126.
In addition to Verona, District 10 includes Becton, Columbia, Delbarton, Newark East Side, Nutley, Orange, Union City, West Orange and Wood-Ridge. The competition kicks off with preliminaries at 10 a.m., followed by semifinals at 1 p.m., third place matches at 3:30 p.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
