With Veterans Day coming this Saturday, Verona High School students wanted to find a way to honor and memorialize the people in their lives who have served in the Armed Forces. They had the idea of creating a collection of stories from family members or friends who have served, which they would then display in the VHS Learning Commons throughout the month of November and archive digitally through the Learning Commons’ website.

The students have now opened their project to the entire community. They have created a form that anyone–current or former Verona residents– can use to share their service experience or what they know about their family’s service history.

“We believe that this collection of stories can provide us with a great opportunity to not only honor those who have sacrificed,” says Maria Mayo, the VHS librarian who runs the Learning Commons, “but also for our students to learn about our history as a school community and understand the true meaning of Veterans Day.”

You will be able to read all stories on the Learning Commons’ website here.
