tom sharkeyComing off a win over Ramsey High School last weekend and with a new quarterback in the Hillbilly house, hopes were high that Verona High School would have a strong game against Glen Ridge today. It wasn’t to be.

Glen Ridge got on the scoreboard first and never looked back. Three Ridgers had two touchdowns apiece: Joe Marchesano, Avery Hackett and Tyler Strong.

Still there were signs of what might be ahead. In his first game back in Verona’s colors, quarterback Tom Sharkey threw a 62-yard pass into the waiting arms of C.J. Lavery, who had been the Hillbilly QB. Sharkey, who had come up through the Verona Eagles program, transferred to VHS from Bergen Catholic this fall. In the second quarter, Sharkey fired a 51-yard pass to Jake McConnachie.

The final score was Glen Ridge 49, Verona 14. Verona, which is now 1-4 overall, travels to North Warren on Friday for an evening game.Jake McConnachie
