Verona UNICO will hold its 35th Annual Verona Labor Day Classic on Monday, September 4 at Verona Park. There will be a one mile fun run starting at 9 a.m., followed by the five kilometer race at 9:30 a.m. The 5K takes place on a fast USATF-certified course through the streets of Verona.
Verona UNICO, the local chapter of the country’s largest Italian American service organization, organizes this event with the Essex Running Club and it serves as a major fundraiser for UNICO’s local charities and scholarships for Verona High School seniors. Major sponsors for the race are Hillcrest Farms, Fleet Feet Sports and Verona PBA Local 72.
The 5K race is a USATF-NJ grand prix event with awards and Fleet Feet gift certificates to the top three finishers in five-year age groups. Electronic chip timing of the 5K race will be performed by CompuScore and complete results will be published on their website. There will be finisher ribbons for each child completing the fun run. Bagels, fruit and other refreshments will be provided after the race at the finish area.
Pre-registration for the 5K is $20 (USATF-members $17); race day registration is $25. Pre-registration for the 1-Mile Fun Run and Health Walk is $12; race day registration is $15. All pre-registered entrants are guaranteed the official race t-shirt. All others will receive a shirt while supplies last.

Race day registration and packet pickup will begin at 8 a.m. at the boathouse in Verona Park. You can also register in person at Fleet Feet Sports, 603 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair until Sunday, September 3 and there will be early packet pickup at Fleet Feet Sports on Saturday, September 2 (noon – 7 p.m.) and Sunday, September 3 (noon – 4 p.m.).
