Joseph A. Aloia, Jr., 77, died on May 11, 2017, in Cedar Grove, N.J. Visiting is in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona, N.J., on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. Services will be held in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona, on Monday, May 15, at 10 a.m.

Born in Plainfield, N.J., Jay moved to Verona in 1944. He graduated from Verona High School and worked for the Township of Verona for 37 years, retiring in 2008 as the superintendent of buildings and grounds.

Jay was the owner of Jay’s Electrical Service, specializing in city-wide fire alarm systems and integrated circuit design. He was a life member of the Verona Rescue Squad and achieved exempt status in the Verona Fire Department.

He was the father of Michael Aloia, Debra Holzer, Daniel Aloia and the late Susan Niler. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Aloia; his sister, Nan Merklinger; his sons-in-law, Robert Holzer and Howard Niler; his daughter-in-law, Corin Aloia, and his grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica and Joseph Niler; Stephanie, Ryan, Gavin and Codey Aloia; and Matthew and Eric Holzer.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Verona Fire Department or the Verona Rescue Squad would be appreciated.
