Question 3: What has been your most rewarding volunteer service experience, in or out of Verona, and why?
Edward “Ted” Giblin: In 2012 and again in 2014, I had the opportunity to serve on the Verona Mayor’s Ball Committee. As a Committee Member, I met countless volunteers who generously gave of their time to make the event a success. The Ball, which highlighted those Verona citizens, organizations, businesses and even athletic teams that have contributed to the success of our community, gave me the opportunity to really understand the uniqueness of our town and why Verona remains a vibrant and progressive municipality.
Proceeds from this event, which totaled more than $20,000 in both years, were dispersed to several worthwhile Verona-based charities, athletic organizations and service organizations. These included the Verona Rescue Squad, Verona Foundation for Educational Excellence (VFEE), Verona Baseball & Softball League (VBSL) as well as the Verona Children’s Fund. These groups were grateful for the support and over time, became accustomed to receiving these funds to carry out the important work of their respective organizations.
Verona has not hosted a Verona Mayor’s Ball in a few years. I am hopeful that our next mayor revives this important event.
