Question 2: Name one Verona ordinance or regulation that should be eliminated and why.

Kevin J. Ryan: I want to start out by reminding MyVerona and the residents that the council has asked the Town manager to conduct a review of the entire code book to see what should be eliminated or modified. This process has begun. Since you just asked for one, I am going to focus on Ordinance 150-4.3.

This is entitled PROHIBITED USES IN ALL ZONE DISTRICTS IN THE TOWNSHIP OF VERONA.

The section that bothered me was brought to the council’s attention by resident Jessica Pearson during the public participation segment at one of our meetings. It prohibits establishments for the distribution of free food, toiletries,
clothes, household goods etc.

Under a strict interpretation one could argue the Food pantry run by and located in the Church of the Holy Spirit is in violation. In my opinion this definitely needs to be repealed or clarified to indicate we are not trying to interfere in a charitable act provided by a house of worship.

There is also an entire Chapter 162 entitled Horseflesh. First issued in 1943 and from what I could determine, last
updated in 1963. I couldn’t resist referencing this as well.
