The Verona Public Library is pleased to offer an afternoon of “Latin Music for Guitar and Piano,” a concert featuring Alex Valencia on guitar and José Beviá on piano on Sunday, February 19, at 3:00 pm.
The performance will showcase Latin-influenced compositions ranging from Joaquín Rodrigo, Chick Corea, Tom Jobim, Michel Camilo, and the debut of two original compositions by José Beviá.
Valencia, who began playing the guitar at 13, trained at the Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá in Colombia before earning a degree in guitar performance from Kean University. He has performed in master classes for guitarists such as Jason Viauex and Kevin Gallaguer. He is currently pursuing a masters degree at Hunter College in New York City. Valencia is the chair of the guitar department at the Lindeblad School of Music.
Beviá graduated from the Valencia Conservatory of Music in Spain and earned a doctor of music degree from Florida State University. Dr. Beviá is the winner of the 2014 Robert Avalon International Competition for Composers in Houston, Texas and has many other accolades as a musician and composer. He is a professor of music at County College of Morris in Randolph and piano faculty at the Lindeblad School of Music.
