Karl Saks, 68
Karl Saks, 68, of Verona, passed away unexpectedly early Monday, January 30, 2017. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Verona on Friday, February 3 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The rock to many, Karl held his love of his wife and family above all else. Karl was born in Trenton and lived in Allentown, N.J., and Yardley, Pa., graduating from Pennsbury in 1966. Karl’s childhood was full of memories of his grandparents’ farm in Robbinsville with his sister, Anne. Karl graduated Lehigh University in 1970 with a bachelor of science in economics, and was a lifelong employee of Prudential. Karl met his wife Wendy Spooner and after falling head over heels for her, married in 1977. Together, they lived life to its fullest; some of his family’s favorite memories include: family parties, Karl’s summertime mastery of the grill, and rib roast dinners at Christmas; globetrotting adventures with Wendy and annual family trips to Hawaii, LBI, and Boothbay Harbor; sporting trips to the Indy 500 and Penn State football games; his generous gifts large and small, his banana splits, corny cards and sweet written notes. Karl was a dedicated member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and a long time faithful blood donor.
Karl is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy Spooner Saks; his amazing mother, Emma Kratzer Saks; adored by his goddaughters, Betsy Yates Long, Eileen Spooner, and Sophie Bloch; his brothers and sisters in law, Bill, Richard, Peggy DeJesus, Larry, Tom, David, Mark, and Nancy Sue Spooner; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
Karl is predeceased by his father, Albert Saks; his father-in-law, William B. Spooner, III and his mother in law, Margaret E. Spooner; his sister, Anne Saks Yates; sister-in-law Rosellen S. Dowd, brother-in-law, Alexis DeJesus.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John’s Soup Kitchen, c/o St. John’s Church, P.O. Box 200147, Newark, NJ 07102 would be appreciated.
