kate-jan-brett-hedgehog1Kate is a first grade student at F.N. Brown and she loves the author Jan Brett. She loves her books, like The Mitten and Trouble With Trolls, and she loves her website, with its coloring pages, activities and videos, but she especially loves Jan Brett’s characters–especially her hedgehogs. So when Kate heard that Jan Brett was having a book tour in our area with a stop in Edison, she had to go.

Kate picked out a special outfit for the event, a sweater with a hedgehog on it and a vest as white as the rabbit in The Mitten. She paired it with hedgehog earrings she had made herself, and packed up all of her hedgehog toys and all the stories that Kate herself has written herself about hedgehogs.

Needless to say, Kate caught Jan Brett’s attention. According to Kate’s mom, the author’s publicist dubbed the first grader “the most intriguing fan I’ve ever met.” Kate got a photo with the author and her beloved hedgehog, but she could get much more, with the help of her fellow Verona residents.

As part of Jan Brett’s Christmas photo tour, there is a photo contest for fans, who had to take a picture of themselves with the author’s tour bus. The photo that gets the most votes will win 10 Jan Brett books. The page to vote for Kate is here. The contest ends on Monday, so get voting!
