ethel-w-mulcahyMrs. Ethel W. Mulcahy, 83, died on November 3, 2016 in the company of family. Private services were held.

Born in Glen Ridge, “Essie” was a lifelong resident of Verona. She was the loving wife of the late Robert E. Mulcahy for 58 years, and the mother of Linda Mulcahy, the late Scott Mulcahy, Steve Mulcahy, and Susan Mulcahy McCarthy.

She was the mother-in-law of Mark Johnson, Cynthia D’Elia Mulcahy, Leslie Kersting Mulcahy, and William McCarthy, and grandmother to Ellen and Katie Johnson; Rob, Ryan, and Kevin Mulcahy; Erin (Sharp), Annie, and David Mulcahy; and Hannah and Connor McCarthy; and the sister of William Walworth.

Ethel had a never-ending love of all animals, which began as a child with her pet monkey, horse, and baby alligator, through to the family’s pet raccoon, squirrel, and rabbits, as well as a constant presence of dogs, cats, and birds that she rescued and loved throughout her life (including her beloved Westie, Ollie).

She will be remembered for her sharp wit, fantastic memory, and the stories she told from her many years in Verona and watching it change. Fiercely independent (often to the frustration of her children!), she was loved for her strength, loyalty, and compassion for others.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Verona Rescue Squad, 12 Church Street, Verona, NJ 07044, would be appreciated.
