The Verona Lions kicked off their annual Super 50/50 fundraiser this week and began selling tickets at key locations in Verona. The 50/50 paid out $5,000 to the first prize winner and $1,000 to the second prize winner last year. “All proceeds from the fundraiser go to back to Verona residents through the programs run by the Lions,” Myron Spector, Verona Lions president, said during the kickoff meeting this past Tuesday. This year’s drawing will take place on December 10, 2016.
The Verona Lions have been a proactive volunteer organization since 1951. The Lions maintain a Hospital loan closet containing wheelchairs, walkers, canes and hospital beds for needy residents. The equipment is loaned to residents and delivered by members free of charge.
In addition the Verona Lions donated a new vehicle to the Township of Verona that is used to transport residents to doctors appointments. The Lions donate food gift cards each year during the holidays to the Township Health Department that are distributed to needy citizens.
You may notice during the Fair in the Square free eye screening exams which are provided free of charge to residents. This is another valuable benefit volunteers provide to Verona. Please help to continue the support for the activities of the Verona Lions by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket. Tickets are $10.
