After the main turkey has been carved and eaten this Thanksgiving it will once again be time for the Team Zoey “Turkey Trot” races in Verona Park.
The 5K race and one mile “fun run” have become an annual event in Verona to raise money to battle an unusual childhood disease, progeria.
Zoey Penny of Verona was just a toddler when she was diagnosed with the rapid aging disease. A group of volunteers has created Team Zoey to hold the “Turkey Trot” races in Verona Park, golf outings and more to raise money for the Progeria Research Foundation.
Registration has just opened for this year’s Turkey Trot, which will be held on Saturday, November 26, beginning at 9:30 a.m. You can register for either the 5K or fun run here. You can learn more about Team Zoey on its Web site.
