Michael J. Verrone was watching the coverage of this morning’s deadly New Jersey Transit train crash in Hoboken and spotted a familiar vehicle among the first responders.
At 8:45 a.m. New Jersey Transit train No. 1614, a Pascack Valley Line train coming from Spring Valley, crashed into the platform at the Hoboken station. According to news reports, at least three people are now believed to have been killed in the crash and up to 100 have been injured.
According to Verona Police Chief Mitchell Stern, one Verona Rescue Squad ambulance with a crew of three responded to the mutual aid call that followed the crash. “Mutual aid is complex,” he said. “You don’t always deplete right next door. They’ll often spread the response for a distance to ensure coverage for other calls.”
