In the early evening of Tuesday, August 2, a Verona Police Department patrol responded to a serious three-car motor vehicle crash in the area of 421 Bloomfield Avenue, which is just opposite the Richfield Regency. Officers found three injured victims, one of whom with serious bodily injury.

The Verona Police Department said in a statement released yesterday that through the investigation, Officer Chris Scheper had reason to believe that one of the operators, Adam Kling, 46, of West Orange, was operating his vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating liquor and/or drugs. The investigation continued and on Tuesday, September 27, Kling was arrested at police headquarters and charged with two counts of assault by auto.

Kling was released after posting bail. He is scheduled to appear in the Essex County Superior Court on Monday, October 10.

Any individual named in a Verona Police Department report is presumed innocent until a decision is rendered by the courts.
