Jean O’Brien (nee Wells), 88, of Blairstown, formerly of Verona, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Barn Hill Care Center, Newton.
Born in Brooklyn, Jean moved to Verona in 1955, where she resided for 53 years, before moving to Blairstown in 2008. While in Verona, Jean was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Church and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. Besides raising her six children, Jean proudly worked as a crossing guard for the Town of Verona at the intersection of Forest Avenue and Hillside Avenue for over 34 years.
Jean leaves behind her beloved husband of 68 years, Raymond H. O’Brien, her daughters, Noreen Santuoso (and her husband Martin), Kathleen Leonardelli (and her husband Paul), Virginia Coffey (and her husband Dennis), Colleen McNamara (and her husband Paul), son Raymond E. O’Brien (and his fiancee Sandy Snyder) and son-in-law, William McEnroe. Jean was predeceased by daughter Jeanne McEnroe and granddaughter Jana Rae Tucci. She was the loving grandmother of Robert (Rita) and Timothy Carlson, Owen (Jamie) and Margaret McEnroe, Erin Vasold (Matthew) and Patrick McNamara, Kaitlyn, Raymond J., and Joy O’Brien. Jean was also the great-grandmother of four, Alexandra, Jocelyn, Keira Jean and Will. Jean is survived by her sister, Gertrude Shannon of Flemington. Jean was also loved and cared for by many compassionate nurses and aides at Barn Hill Care Center.
Jean will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her kindness, patience and loving ways will live on forever.
A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date for family only.
