The Paul Robeson East-West All-Star Classic was played Monday, June 13, with three players from Verona High School’s championship football squad on the winning East team.
Sean Crawford started at strong safety, Mark Riggio started at outside linebacker and Chris Luehs started at center. Luehs kicked a 33-yard field goal and an extra point that pushed the East team to its 16-12 win.
The trio will be back on a gridiron in the fall, playing for three different Division III teams. Crawford will be at Salve Regina College, which is part of the New England Football Conference. Luehs will play for Pennsylvania’s Moravian College, where he could see a Hillbilly reunion when Moravian plays Johns Hopkins: Bill Ferrari (VHS Class of 2015) is a tight end there. Riggio, who also earned honors in wrestling, will be playing for Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
