Town Website On The Fritz

WebsiteDownNo, it’s not your imagination: The website for Verona’s municipal government is not working the way it should.

The Town Council disclosed at Monday night’s meeting that the website has been infected by a virus and that repeated attempts to clear it have failed. Under a decision made by the previous IT administration, the town had been hosting its website itself, rather than having it hosted by a professional service. The previous IT administration had also waived a maintenance contract on the site.

So two things are happening now. The first is that Steve Neale, who manages the site now, has put up a temporary static page with key information. The second is that the Council approved a $20,000 budget for a new site and professional hosting. The bids for the work have come in below that, and the new contract will likely include an initial design and a refresh in two years.

The town is working on getting the new site up as quickly as possible. In the meantime, if you need any information from government, the main number at Town Hall is 973-239-3220. The number for the Verona Recreation Department is 973-857-4830 and the number for the Department of Public Works is 973-857-4830.
