Olivia Lewis graduated Verona High School with the class of 2013. She attends Caldwell University now, but writing in an online magazine for college students and Millenials, she says that VHS will always be home.
Sports, she writes are a big reason why, in her essay for Odyssey. That’s perhaps understandable since Lewis played volleyball, basketball, softball and competed in indoor track. But like fellow VHS alumna Cole McConnachie, who wrote a piece for Odyssey in August 2015, Lewis also sites the allure of Hillbilly football. “There is always that one person, boy or girl, who dresses up as the famous hillbilly, denim overalls, straw hat and everything!,” she recalls.
Lewis also found lots to like off the playing fields, like VHS’s marching band and concert band. “Music is still my life and VHS helped me realize that,” writes Lewis, who has continued to perform at college. She is grateful for the teachers at VHS and the friendships she formed.
Her final reason why VHS will always be home? You’ll need to read the piece to find out.
