The Verona Police Department has let us know that it is accepting applications for school crossing guards.
Crossing guard candidates must be a citizen and resident of New Jersey and be in good health–you’ve got to have good vision and hearing, and the ability to move quickly in order to avoid danger from what the VPD is calling “errant vehicles.” (Our translation: Distracted parents using their cell phones while driving around schools.) You also need a clean police record, with no convictions for things like DUI, drugs, theft, fraud and firearms problems.
If you want to apply, you need to pick up a crossing guard application in person from the Verona Police Department Records Bureau, which is on the second floor of Town Hall at 600 Bloomfield Avenue. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Applications will not be mailed or emailed.
