Boys Basketball Advances In Essex County Tournament

MyVeronaNJ-Basketball-SlideThe Verona High School boys basketball team is headed to Seton Hall Prep on Saturday for the first round of the Essex County Tournament after defeating Millburn for the second time in a week yesterday.

The Hillbillies’ junior class scorers led Thursday’s second preliminary round game, with Jack Farrell putting up 15 points as Verona topped the Millers 43-40. Rob Sorhaindo had nine points, while Zack Zaccone contributed eight and Travis Jocelyn added five. On Monday, in regular play, Verona beat Millburn 41-36. Verona defeated Belleville in the first preliminary round of the Essex tournament, 56-34.

The win pits #17 seed Verona against #1 Seton Hall Prep, in a game at Seton Hall, which is located at 120 Northfield Avenue in West Orange. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The other first round games Saturday will see Immaculate Conception (9) at American History (8), West Orange (12) at West Side (5), Irvington (20) at Central (4), Barringer (15) at East Side (2), and Montclair (10) at Bloomfield Tech (7), all with 1 p.m. starts. At 2:30 p.m. Columbia (11) takes on East Orange (6) and North 13th Street Tech (19) is at University (3).
