Fred and Evelyn Hill moved to Verona more than four decades ago and raised a family that has shaped the town in education, business and sports. (Mrs. Hill was also our town clerk for a while.) During that time, Coach Hill amassed a record of 1,089 victories in college baseball at Montclair State and Rutgers University. When the Scarlet Knights retired his jersey in May 2014, they noted that, in 30 years at Rutgers, Hill guided its baseball team to 11 NCAA regional appearances, 12 regular season conference championships and eight conference tournament titles.
