Dr. Irwin Honigfeld, D.D.S., 99, of Verona, N.J., died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, in Mountainside Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. in the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd., Livingston, with interment in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
Dr. Honigfeld, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, practiced dentistry in Verona for over 50 years. He also served as a dentist at the Essex County Hospital Center (Overbrook) for many years.
A captain in the U.S. Army, Dr. Honigfeld was a member of the Essex County Dental Society.
Predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Shapiro, and a brother, Joel Honigfeld, Dr. Honigfeld is survived by his wife, Doris (nee Lewitt); a daughter, Madeline Sagorin and her husband, Dr. Charles; a son, Brad Honigfeld and his wife, Beth; a sister, Elaine Baumrind, and two grandchildren, Jordyn and Jason Honigfeld. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
I never forget how Dr Honigfeld once gave me some mercury in a bottle to play with, taught me how to develop the x-ray film in dark room and other great stull.
