If you intend to run in the 33rd annual Verona Labor Day Classic, the 5K sponsored by Verona UNICO, you’ve got until midnight tonight (Wednesday, September 2) to get in your registration online.

The race will kick off as usual on Monday, September 7 with a 1 mile fun run and health walk around Verona Park at 9 a.m. before the big race at 9:30. The 5K is a USATF-NJ grand prix event with awards and Fleet Feet gift certificates to the top three male and female Verona residents, and the top three male and female finishers in different age groups.

Ben Clarke of Morristown won last year’s in 16:16.19, down from 16:41.23 when he won the race in 2013. Clarke was a newlywed last year and his bride, Allison Clarke, was the top female finisher with a time of 19:07.45. Ellis Martin, a senior on the Verona High School soccer team last year, was the top Verona finisher in 2014. The race, which typically attracts between 500 and 600 runners, is a key fundraiser for UNICO, funding several scholarships that the Italian American service organization gives to Verona High School seniors every year and other outreach programs.

The online registration link is here.
