Mrs. Joan E. Simpson, 89, died on June 11, 2015 at her home in Verona. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Services will be held in the First Presbyterian Church of Verona, Fairview Avenue at Bloomfield Avenue on Monday at 10 a.m.

Born and raised in Montclair, Mrs. Simpson moved to Verona 57 years ago.

Mrs. Simpson had a long career as a legal secretary, first working at Bannon, Rawding & Bannon in Verona and then at Shepard, Cooper, Dickson, Merkelbach, Camp & Cass in Upper Montclair.

Prior to her career as a legal secretary, Mrs. Simpson was a volunteer and president of the Verona Service League.
Mrs. Simpson was predeceased by her husband, Donald M. Simpson, her sister, Ruth E. Schleicher and brother, Herman Ehrhardt.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara S. Filoso (Patrick), Janet S. Landara (John), Ellen S. Ellis (Darwin), her grandchildren, Jennifer Kiernan (Kevin), Patrick A. Filoso, Jr. (Amanda), Christopher J. Landara and Lauren Elizabeth Landara. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kylie Kiernan and Rita Filoso.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, 194 Route 10 West, East Hanover, NJ 07936 would be appreciated.
