BreakingNewsThe Verona Police Department has just announced arrests in the string of burglaries that have happened in Verona since May 10.

The Nixle alert sent by the VPD says that two individuals were arrested on Friday, but it is not known which of the recent crimes are connected to the arrests. There was a home invasion on Grove Avenue on May 10, a break-in on Woodland Avenue and a burglary on Afterglow Avenue. Verona Police Chief Doug Huber declined to provide many additional details on the suspects, saying, “we expect them to be charged by multiple jurisdictions.” Law enforcement sources have noted a pattern of similar burglaries in several towns around our area.

“We are confident we have the right individuals,” Huber added.

The VPD is still, however, urging residents to be cautious. “Although arrests have been made”, it said in the arrest announcement, “we are still requesting that you be alert to suspicious behavior and report it immediately via 911.”

  1. Hi Virginia,

Can you do an update on this story? Would be interesting to hear what charges they have been brought up on in Verona or any other town. I for one would like to know what town the alleged burglars are from and for all we know, they may not be connected to the all the town burglaries, which could cause a false sense of security. Should be public record right?

  2. Valerie,
I was told last Friday that the charges would be filed on Tuesday. But Chief Huber told me yesterday that they were still pending. There are several towns involved in this. Hopefully we’ll have some news today.
