LIONSThe Verona Lions Club will once again mail its White Cane appeal in mid-May to Verona residents. The purpose is to seek assistance in helping us to continue our service to the needs of our township and support other local organizations.

The Verona Lions Club is totally dedicated to servicing the needs of our community and, under a broader mandate, supports eyesight health and care to those who are blind or sight-impaired.

Under our motto “We Serve”, the VLC consists of 35+ active members dedicated to the health and well being of all Verona residents. We provide services including annual hearing and eyesight testing. We also collect used eye glasses for refurbishment and redistribution to those unable to afford basic eye care and sight assistance.

Each Spring our members head to New Jersey’s Camp Marcella, a summer camp for blind youth, to clean up and perform repairs, painting, etc. necessary for the camp to operate safely. Their work prepares this camp for its blind summer residents. In the Fall, VLC members return to secure the camp’s many buildings for its seasonal closure.
The Verona Lions Club is best known around town for its Hospital Loan Closet, providing free setup and use of electric hospital beds, wheel chairs, walkers, commodes and shower chairs. All items are delivered free of charge to residents in poor health or recovering from surgery or illness, to assist with their convalescence and recovery.

The Verona Lions Club recently donated a brand new auto for use as the Verona-Cedar Grove Medical Transportation Vehicle, used daily Monday to Friday to transport sick and elderly residents from both towns to their medical appointments. The Township of Verona provides drivers for this car, but the Verona Lions volunteer to drive the vehicle every year during the month of March, as another reach-out program to our community.

The Verona Lions Club relies on this annual White Cane appeal, which is critical in supporting these and all their local public service activities.

The Verona Lions Club thanks each resident for your continued support!
