Child Break LogoThe Verona Public Library will be hosting the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey’s (PDFNJ) 15-Minute Child Break program Monday, May 18, at 7 p.m.

According to Angelo Valente, executive director of the PDFNJ, “This presentation is an opportunity for parents and caregivers to come out and find out the role they play and the power they have in preventing their children from abusing drugs and alcohol.”

The 15-Minute Child Break is an interactive, one-hour presentation for parents, grandparents and caregivers who are concerned about children (of any age) and substance abuse. Parents are empowered and supported with the assurance that, even in today’s society, they are still the strongest influence in their children’s lives.

The 15-Minute Child Break presentation is supported by research which demonstrates that kids who communicate regularly with their parents about their daily activities are 67% less likely to be involved in substance abuse than children who have little or no communication. Topics covered include talking to your kids about drugs and alcohol, influence of media and pop culture, effects of specific drugs, keeping your kids drug-free, strengthening parenting skills and utilizing teachable moments.

The PDFNJ offers a variety of free programs, services and materials. For additional information visit www.drugfreenj.org. The Verona Public Library is located at 17 Gould Street, Verona, NJ; phone: (973) 857-4848. Visit the website at www.veronalibrary.org
