The Verona High School girls lacrosse team defeated Columbia High School 13-1 at home on Tuesday, but the game brought something even better than a victory: Senior Jackie Brozyna scored her 200th career lacrosse goal.
Brozyna had six goals and an assist on the afternoon at Centennial Field, and inspired a lot of scoring by her teammates: Nicola Perzichilli, Maggie Ashley and Dana Pena had two goals each. Ava Anderson scored once and Emilia Frizzi was credited with two assists.
And if you think that it seems like only yesterday that Brozyna was scoring her 100th goal, you’d be almost right. Number 100 came on April 7, 2014. If all the Essex County girls lacrosse stats on NJ.com right now are up to date, Brozyna leads the scoring, ahead of players like Montclair High School’s Lindsey Ewertsen, Galen Lew of Glen Ridge and Shannon Bertscha of West Essex, all of which lead Verona in the team rankings.
The 100th goal also means that Brozyna has surpassed former teammate Lauren Ednie, who scored her 100th goal on senior night in 2014.
