The Northern NJ District 16N of New Jersey Lions Clubs honored its District Governor, Hector Gonzalez of Verona, on Saturday night, March 28 at The Graycliff in Moonachie.

Born in Havana, Cuba and arriving in New Jersey as a young boy, Gonzalez grew up in Newark, attending Barringer High School before moving on to Princeton University, where he graduated in 1978.

Gonzalez’ passion for New Jersey and dedication to “giving back” to the various communities he feels helped nurture him, inspired his involvement in various NJ Lions activities and committees, as well as being very active as a Princeton University alumnus.

Lions District Governor Gonzalez, also a Verona Lions Club member, was elected District Governor by a delegate election of its member clubs in May 2014 and continues to serve in that leadership role until a new governor is elected in May 2015.

Since becoming a Verona Lion in 2005, Gonzalez became active in district and state Lions activities outside of Verona. His election to his current position took a very steep climb:
2010-2011 Cabinet Secretary
2011- present Global Membership Team Coordinator
2012-2013 2nd Vice District Governor
2014- present 1st Vice District Governor

Gonzalez has been instrumental in the massive recent NJ State Lions restructuring. The Verona Lions Club was for a very long time a member club of District 16E but only recently became grouped into the new District 16N. His tireless committee activities over the past four years, accompanied by his enormous organizational skills, helped guide all the Lions clubs across central and northern New Jersey through this reorganization.

Gonzalez resides in Verona with his supportive wife, Diana and is father to two daughters, Sandra and Diana-Lauren.
