The Verona High School Student Council is collecting supplies to benefit Backpacks for Life, an organization that helps homeless veterans, until March 31. Backpacks for Life was started by Kevin Clarke and Brett D’Alessandro, both graduates of Verona High School (Class of 2010), after D’Alessandro did a tour of duty with the Marines in Iraq.
The Student Council is collecting toiletries, t-shirts, socks, pencils, notebooks, backpacks, ponchos and handheld fans, which will be put into backpacks for the veterans. There are collection boxes located in Verona High School, H.B. Whitehorne, and Forest, Brookdale and F.N. Brown elementary schools.
“The Student Council is all about helping people,” says Senior Class President Caroline Chivily. “We help a different charity each month. I heard about Backpacks for Life and I thought it would be a great organization to help out and support what they do.”
