The Verona Rescue Squad recently held its annual awards dinner to recognize contributions made by their members. Karen Blasi-Blinder, Ellen Conover, Jim Durkin, Jerry Gordon and Chris Tamburro were recognized for completing five years of service.
Susan Fahy was recognized for completing 20 years of service. During that time she has responded to 1,337 calls. She has held the offices of president, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, treasurer, trustee and crew lieutenant. She has also served on numerous committees.
Sandra Bowman was recognized for 25 years of service. During that time she has responded to 3,957 calls. She has held the position of vice president and fund drive chairperson for 23 years and has been instrumental in helping to raise over $2.3 million for the squad. She has served on various committees and has held the position of day crew lieutenant for many years.
Frank Miscia Jr. was recognized for 40 years of service. Miscia has responded to 2,376 calls and has held the position of captain, assistant captain and heavy rescue lieutenant He has served on many committees. Miscia is well known throughout the EMS community for his knowledge of vehicle safety and heavy rescue operations. He has authored many articles for national rescue magazines and has taught many rescue classes including safety classes for General Motors.
Mayor Bob Manley was on hand to present proclamations to Fahy, Bowman and Miscia, along with Town Council members Frank Sapienza and Michael Nochimson.
The evening also included the installation of the 2015 Officers: Captain Ricky Tempesta, President Peggy Hoffman, Vice President Sandy Bowman, Treasurer Karen Blasi-Blinder, Recording Secretary Cassie Jung, Corresponding Secretary Ellen Conover and Trustee Chairman Fred Santoro.
