Verona High School senior Alex Luehs and freshman Carly Waterman have been named second team All Group 1 Volleyball by NJ Advance Media’s NJ.com.

Luehs has had a powerful senior year, piling up 475 assists or more than half of her career total of exactly 900. She was recognized earlier this season for her contribution to the team as the Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week.

Waterman made her debut on the VHS varsity squad this year, and she has wowed the crowds with her powerful kills. She is credited with 242 kills and 120 digs in just the one, short volleyball season.

“I’m thrilled that both Alex and Carly were selected to the All Group 1 second team,” said VHS volleyball Coach Jeff Stiefbold. “This is Alex’s second time being selected 2nd team All Group 1. Her strong play and leadership skills have helped the Verona Volleyball team achieve the success we’ve had the last two years.”

“I’m really happy that Carly Waterman’s outstanding all around play was recognized,” he added. “Carly finished with 242 kills, a new school record for kills in a season. She was also our team’s best passer this year. I am looking forward to watching Carly improve as a volleyball player in the next three seasons.”
