MyVeronaNJ-First-Presbyterian-NativityWith the holidays just around the corner, there’s a lot going on at the First Presbyterian Church of Verona located at 10 Fairview Avenue.

  • Sunday, November 23, 10:15 a.m.: The Sunday before Thanksgiving Rev. Julia Dawson (a long time resident of Verona) will be preaching. Following the service there will be a “meet and greet” with therapy dogs in Chamberlain Hall (down the hall from the sanctuary)hosted by Eileen Kuhn. Come and find out how these animals are making positive changes in the lives of many.
  • Sunday, November 30 at 10:15 a.m.: The Rev. Ed Clydesdale will be preaching the first Sunday in Advent. The Sunday school class will be setting up the Nativity on the front lawn. Immediately following there will be hot chocolate and a special Advent Lesson.
  • Sunday, December 7 at 10:15 a.m.: The Rev. Ed Clydesdale will be preaching the second Sunday in Advent as the church celebrates their 120th Anniversary. The Senior Choir will be singing “Our Hymn Of Celebration” by Nancy Price and Don Besig, which was commissioned by the church 20 years ago in honor of their 100th anniversary. Immediately following the service in Chamberlain Hall is the Alternative Christmas Mall. This is a chance to “shop” by visiting and donating to several worthy organizations/charities that will have display tables. Why go to the mall when you can support such organizations as The Verona Children’s Fund, Interfaith Hospitality Network and Camp Johnsonburg? Make a donation in the name of a family member or friend; it’s a gift that fits purses of all sizes!
  • Saturday, December 13: Children’s Holiday Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For only $10 children from grades K-6 can enjoy holiday music, crafts, games and lunch! (It also gives parents some free time to do holiday shopping! Additionally church’s Thrift Shop, located on the lower level, in Fellowship Hall, will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
  • Sunday, December 14th at 10:15 AM: The third Sunday in advent always bring special holiday music as all the choirs of the church will present a service of “Lessons and Carols.”
  • Sunday, December 21 at 10:15 a.m.: The Rev. Julia Dawson will be preaching on the 4th Sunday in Advent.
  • Wednesday, December 24: There will be two Christmas Eve services presided over by the Rev. Allyson Glass. The 4 p.m. family service provides an opportunity for all children to participate in the telling of the Christmas Story. At 9 p.m. there will be a more traditional service of lessons and carols featuring solos by Peggy Whiting and Eric Burgos.
