Martin-AOW-YeatesThe Verona Sports Boosters would like to congratulate Ellis Martin as the Boys Senior Athlete of the Week. Ellis is the leading scorer on Coach Wayne Looney’s Hillbillies soccer team, with eight goals and an assist. The team concluded its season with a record of 11-9-1 and won a state playoff game by defeating Butler 6-4 in the first round.

Ellis’ fondest soccer memory is when he had the opportunity to travel to Brazil with the People to People organization. He got to play soccer with kids from all around the world.

A few other things you may not know about Ellis: His favorite food is pancakes, he is a fan of the TV show How I Met Your Mother, and his musical taste ranges from country to rap. He is also a die-hard Boston Bruins fan. The best vacation Ellis ever took was a trip to Oregon, where he got to spend time with his cousins. Given the chance to have dinner with anyone living or dead, Ellis chose Liam Neeson. Whippany-Martin

Next year Ellis hopes to continue playing soccer in college. Of the schools he has visited, his favorites so far are Franklin & Marshall and Syracuse. The Verona Sports Boosters would like to wish Ellis good luck and continued success wherever he goes next year!

During the 2014-2015 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will recognize a different male and female senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
