State-level playoffs start this week for soccer and volleyball, and Verona High School teams are in the mix.
The Hillbilly boys soccer team is up first. The boys are the #4 seed going into the North 1, Group 1 playoffs, and have a game Monday afternoon at Centennial Field against #13 seed Butler. VHS boys soccer has a 10-8-1 record overall; the playoffs are based on a points system established by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) that is independent of league results. The boys game starts at 4:15 p.m.
The girls soccer team is the #3 seed in North 2, Group 1. Verona’s girls, who are 11-7 this season, host #14 Secaucus on Tuesday, November 4. The Star Ledger is favoring Glen Ridge, the #5 seed, to take the state sectionals in North 2, Group 1.
The Verona High School volleyball team is the #14 seed in the public Group 1 bracket for volleyball. They girls, who are 12-10 this year, face #19 North Arlington on Wednesday.
