Seamus Elliott, a Verona High School junior, is currently a Life Scout with Troop 2 Verona. He is working on his Eagle Scout rank and looking for community support for his service project.
For his project, he intends to replace the bulletin board by the boathouse in Verona Park, which is currently in a state of disrepair, with a newly constructed bulletin board in a more visible location. “Considering the popularity of this beautiful landmark of Essex County, the renovation is very much needed,” says Elliott. The project has been requested and approved by the Verona Park Conservancy and also has been approved by the Essex County Park Commission.
Elliott estimates the cost for materials to be $1,200 and he has already raised $390. “Donations of any kind–money, supplies, or gift cards and also labor–would be incredibly helpful,” he says. He specifically needs wood for the bulletin board, the locking bulletin board enclosure, tools to carry out the project and volunteers to help build. “I am also looking for advice from a professional carpenter to offer guidance on the construction of the bulletin board, seeing that I have minimal training in carpentry,” he adds.
Donations will be accounted for under adult leader supervision and are tax deductible. Checks should be made out to “Troop 2 Verona” with “Seamus Elliott Eagle Project” noted in the memo field and mailed to can be mailed to Seamus Elliott, 35 Brentwood Drive, Verona, NJ 07044. Elliott has also created a Go Fund Me account to accept donations online.
