On Monday night, November 3, the Verona Environment Commission recognized the winners of this year’s VEC poster contest–the sixth annual event– at the Town Council meeting. The theme of this year’s contest was sustainability.

There was one winner from each of Verona’s public schools, including for the first time a winner from Verona High School: Maya Cappello (Brookdale), Juliet Alkaysi (F.N. Brown), Stephen Bartell (Forest Avenue), Erin Song (Laning), Jessica Sidrak (H.B. Whitehorne) and Paul Chanley (Verona High School). More than 200 posters were created for the contest, which runs annually on Walk To School Day. Each of the winners receives a check for $50 and a certificate from Verona Mayor Bob Manley.

The posters have been exhibited at the schools, in the Community Center and in information boards at the Hilltop Reservation. The VEC also put all the posters into a video, which you can watch on YouTube.
