The Verona Sports Boosters would like to congratulate Alex Luehs as the Girls Senior Athlete of the Week.
A captain and two-year starter for Coach Jeff Steifbold, Alex began playing volleyball in 8th grade. She recently surpassed her assist total from last season of 400 and now has over 800 for her career. She is the all-time assists leader at Verona High School. The team has an 11-9 record this season and is the 7th seed in the Essex County tournament.
Last year Alex was recognized for her outstanding play by being named First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-Essex County, and Second Team All-State Group 1. Undoubtedly, more awards will follow this season.
Off the volleyball court, Alex loves hanging out with her friends. She is a fan of pop and country music, and loves vacationing anyplace that has a beach. Alex’s favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy and her favorite food is pasta. You can also find her high jumping during the winter track season and on the lacrosse field in the spring. Next year Alex plans to study Business Administration in college. Congratulations to Alex and wishing you continued success from the Verona Sports Boosters!
During the 2014-2015 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will recognize a different male and female senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
