The Verona Environmental Commission has been named a winner of the 2014 ANJEC Environmental Achievement Award, which is given by the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions.
The VEC is being honored for the “Recycling 101” video it produced earlier this year in partnership with the Verona High School Environmental Club. The video, which was created to clear up confusion about what to recycle in Verona and where, has been watched more than 340 times on YouTube and has been shown at a Town Council meeting and aired on VTV.
Members of the VEC will go to Raritan Valley Community College on Friday to receive the award.
The Verona Environmental Commission, created in 1992, has seven volunteer members appointed by the mayor (Full disclosure: Virginia Citrano, editor of MyVeronaNJ.com, has served on the VEC since 2009). Its role is to make recommendations to the Town Council and the Planning Board about open space preservation, water resources management, air pollution control, solid waste management, noise control, soil and landscape protection, and other environmental issues throughout Verona.
