Tennis Sweeps Opening Round Of Sectionals

Done and done: The Verona High School girls tennis team took on Weequahic High school in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 tournament and swept the Indians off the court.

All three of Verona’s first singles players went 6-0, 6-0 against their Weequahic opponents, as did the first doubles team.

Verona was seeded 4 going into sectionals. Both the number 1 seed, McNair, and number 2, Glen Ridge, had byes going into today’s play. The only other match today pitted number 6 Whippany Park again number 11 Becton and Whippany Park also had a 5-0 sweep.

Three games are on the docket for tomorrow. Verona will face the winner of the Secaucus-Lincoln game on October 8.
