Victim Of Fatal Fire Identified

EssexFellsFireThe Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has released a statement naming the woman who died in an Essex Fells house fire early Sunday morning.

The victim was Michelle L. Meoli, age 60. The statement says she was the only occupant of the house, which was located at 68 Fells Road on the border of Essex Fells and Verona.  Essex Fells police and fire units responded to the fire just after 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Verona Fire Department and fire companies from several other towns also responded.

The statement says that the cause and manner of Meoli’s death are pending test results. Authorities are still investigating the fire but the statement says it does not appear suspicious.

When Meoli was rescued from the blaze, she was given first aid and transported to Hackensack UMC Mountainside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:06 a.m.

Damage to the home, which sits just south of the townhouses at the foot of White Rock Road, appears to be substantial.
