The Verona Waves swim team did its annual “Swim For Food” drive on Friday and collected 1,382 cans for local food pantries.
In “Swim For Food”, each age group on the team is given a set number of laps to swim, which can be reduced by one lap for each can brought in. There are prizes awarded for the two swimmers in each category that contribute the most to the drive. “Kids and coaches had a fun day helping a great cause,” says Sue Dillane, one of the parents who helps to organize the summer swim team.
The Waves’ travel team has its final home meet tonight at the Verona Pool against Berkeley Heights. The meet starts at 6 p.m. Their final regular season meet is tomorrow at Madison.
