Chris Sweeney continued his incredible season at the State Group Championships this past weekend, winning both hurdle races and getting fourth in the 400m.
On Friday, the senior ran 55.59 to win the 400m hurdles and about two hours later placed fourth in the 400m in a time of 50.74. Just three seconds separated the first and fourth place winners in that race. On Saturday, Sweeney won the 110m high hurdles in 14.79. Sweeney had been only a hundredth of a second ahead of Hopatcong High School’s Stephen Rogers in the preliminaries for the event, but finished three-tenths of a second ahead in the finals.
Sophomore Angel Barkley jumped 5 feet in the high jump and tied for third place. Both Sweeney and Barkley will compete in the Meet of Champions on Wednesday at Jost Field in South Plainfield. (Photos copyright Treesh Ramsthaler. Used by permission.)
