Verona Citizens Award
D. Bruce Williams (Posthumously)

Bruce was one of the most selfless, dedicated, passionate and involved citizens that the Township of Verona has ever had the good fortunate to call its own over the 33 years he and his wife Kathy called it home. As a Scout Master, with the Boy Scouts of America, Mr. Williams was on the Advancement Committee, assistant scoutmaster and former committee chair for Verona Troop 2, as well as a being member of the Old Guard of Camp Glen Gray in Mahwah, and served on the Advancement Committee of the Broken Arrow District.

Both their children, Bryan and Kirsten attended Verona High School and have gone on to graduate from the University of Delaware, and Marymount Manhattan College respectively. As a dedicated parent of Verona High School band members, Bruce happily served for many years in its Pit Crew, and helped to organize numerous fundraisers and celebrations for the group.

Mr. Williams exhibited a passion for the community of Verona that served as a model of volunteerism. He ran for the position of Council Member of the Verona Township Council in 2011. He served for years on the Public Safety Committee, and gave of himself as a coach of many Verona youth athletic teams. His greatest joy was playing the part of Santa Claus arriving at the Verona Tree Lighting ceremony each year, and leading the Annual Labor Day Run by driving the pace car, both for over 25 years. In the truest sense, he was a genuine “Gentleman of Verona”.
