Edward M. (Ted) Giblin of Verona, a financial planner and prominent member of the Irish-American community, will be honored when the Essex County-based civic and charitable organization bearing his grandfather’s name celebrates its 60th anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 16, at Caldwell College.

The Giblin Association event, a cocktail party from 4:30 p.m.-9 p.m. in the Student Center, is open to the public and will feature the music of the Willie Lynch Showband and an exhibition by members of the DeNogla School of Irish Dance. Tickets are $35 apiece and available at 973-808-0022.

Founded by the late State Senator John Giblin in 1954, the Giblin Association supports civic, cultural and community organizations statewide. Proceeds will help the organization continue its mission.

“Ted has huge shoes to fill as a leader of the Giblin Association and he is doing so admirably,” said Giblin Association President Raymond Simione. “We’re fortunate to have someone of his expertise and commitment to lead the association’s Board of Governors. He’s learned in one way or another at the knee of two greats in his father and grandfather, about being an advocate, coalition-builder and planner, among his many roles here.”

Named to its 40 under 40 list in 2010 by the Irish Echo, the oldest Irish-American newspaper in the U.S., Ted is a past president of the Giblin Assn. and serves on the Newark St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, where he was elected to four terms as treasurer and has served as assistant adjutant. He is also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Div. 9, Montclair. He has earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and at MetLife is an eight-time Leaders Conference qualifier.

Ted is a graduate of St. Cassian’s School, Montclair, St. Peter’s Prep, Jersey City, and Providence College. He earned his MBA in international business from Seton Hall University.

Barbara Lyons of West Orange is also an honoree. She is a former long-time senior aide to Senator Frank (Pat) Dodd and later served as associate executive director of the Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York. An active member of the Irish American Cultural Inst. for more than 40 years, Barbara has played key roles over the years with the West Orange St. Patrick’s Day Parade. She is corresponding and recording secretary of the Giblin Assn. and was elected sergeant-at-arms for the 2014 Newark St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Sean McGinley of Kinnelon and Barbara Hughes of Bloomfield are co-chairing the event.

The standard-bearer of the Giblin Association is Thomas P. Giblin of Montclair, the state assemblyman in the 34th district representing East Orange, Orange, Montclair and Clifton. Tom is also president of the Essex-West Hudson Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
