Julie Rosenberg has been sporting neon-bright pink sneakers this season, and they’re an apt metaphor for the way she has been playing. Rosenberg has lit up the court for the Verona High School girls basketball team, piling up 122 points in just eight games, and making her the team’s leading scorer.
There were the 23 points Rosenberg ran up in Verona’s holiday tournament game against West Essex (more than half VHS’ points in that game) or the January 9 blowout against Immaculate, when Rosenberg was responsible for 20 of Verona’s 71 points. To watch her score, you don’t don’t have to choose whether to focus on the rim or the three-point line: Rosenberg has been equally effective from both locations. For her scoring leadership, Julie Rosenberg is the Verona Sports Boosters’ Senior Athlete of the Week.
Rosenberg has a singular passion for basketball, a sport she took up before she moved to Verona in the seventh grade. In addition to her contributions to the Maroon-and-White, Rosenberg plays with the New Jersey Panthers and her dedication to the sport has been rewarded with being recruited by Babson College, a division III school.
During the 2013-2014 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters recognizes a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
